Never Get Lost in Translation Again with Pilot

By Devin Healy

There are some technologies that are invented so ahead of their time they make you step back and think, ‘Wow, so this is the future. We’ve made it.’ The insanely talented minds over at Waverly Labs are gearing up to release a device that will make you think exactly that.

The Pilot fits snugly into the wearer’s ear and receives audio in whatever language is being spoken. The Pilot earpiece translates the words in real-time and outputs the new audio directly into the ear of the wearer in the language that they speak and understand. See it in action in the video below and revel in the endless possibilities.

Gone are the days of awkwardly mispronouncing menu items to your Italian server, or futilely trying to use your hands as a language in the hopes that someone can interpret what you’re trying to say. Communication is one of the most valuable tools we have, yet we often find ourselves limited by the time it takes to learn a new language and lose the ability to interact with others during our travels.

You’ll surely find an increased level of westernization in various cities throughout your global wanderings. Now more than ever, there are more English speakers around the globe. Yet, speaking your mother tongue to someone who may not understand you isn’t the same as being able to communicate without misinterpretation. Pilot is tearing down language barriers by allowing us to communicate more fluidly. Through your travels you’ll find that even the slightest effort to understand the local dialect will be well received by locals you encounter.

Like most translation technologies, the Pilot isn’t perfect, but it does feature an intuitive translation engine that continues to learn the more that it’s used. The package comes with two earpieces, one for you and one for the person you’re speaking with, and the phone app which is used to select language preferences. The first model will feature the Romance languages (Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese) and soon after more languages will be added (German, Danish, Swedish, East Asian languages, Russian and Slovak, Hebrew, and more).

The future of international communication and the end of language barriers is near thanks to the masterminds at Waverly Labs and we at TWW send our thanks. Happy and safe travels!
