Greek Food that Will Make Everything Else Seem Inedible

Greece is well known for this amazing and affordable meal. The Gyro, also called Soulvaki and Kebab, is made with flavorful meat cooked on a vertical spinning rod. Slices of this meat are placed in a warm pita and topped with lettuce, tomato, tzatziki and sometimes French fries!

The only thing better than cheese…deep fried cheese, duh.

Moussakka

This glorious baked dish is layered with sautéed aubergine, minced meat, fried pureed tomato, onion, garlic, potato, spices, and then topped with cheese and béchamel sauce. Yum!

These stuffed grape leaves are served both hot and cold. Typically, you will find rice, pine nuts and fresh herbs inside.

This seriously delicious dip is a key ingredient for many dishes in Greece! Tzatziki consists of Greek yogurt, garlic, lemon and dill and is best paired with meats, vegetables, and pita bread.

Spanakopita

It should be a crime to leave Greece without trying these delightful pastries. Spanakopita comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and is stuffed with feta cheese and spinach.

These spiced fried chickpea balls  are similar to  the Middle eastern falafel, but  with a unique and tasty Greek flavor!

Baklava

This beautiful pastry with light, flaky later of crust and a sweet filling topped with light syrup or honey is the perfect dessert in Greece! The buttery layers are typically separated with a layer of assorted chopped nuts. This dish is definitely worth the calories.
