Florence Cheat Sheet

By Tori vanSambeck

Adjusting to Florence when I used to live in Rome meant figuring out the best places to go in Florence as quickly as possible. I don’t like wasting my time or money on tourist traps, lame bars or sub par pizzas. Lucky for me I moved into an apartment with three other people who have lived in Florence for awhile, so they were able to clue me in on all of the top spots. So, after a lot of experimenting I’ve narrowed down my list to the top 5 places to check out while in Florence.

Piazzale Michelangelo: If you’ve ever looked up images of Florence than you’ve seen pictures of the amazing view from this famous piazza. Actually, if your studying here, its probably already your cover photo on Facebook. And if its not yet, it will be after your first visit here. Up here you can see all of the major sites in Florence like the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio. I suggest going at sunset with a few good friends and a bottle of wine.

Gusta Pizza: Everyone who comes to Florence has heard of Gusta Pizza. The pizza here is famous and the perfect combination of melt in your mouth mozzerella and fresh tomato. If your thinking of splitting one with a friend, don’t. Trust me, you’ll want to eat your own.

Kikuya: I love beer, and I love strong beer even more. Kikuya is home to the famous Dragoon, which gives you more bang for your buck since its 10% abv. Two of these and you’re good for the night…

Il Gatto e le Volpe: If your in Florence you need to experience an authentic Italian meal. Gatto has an extensive menu with a variety of dishes so your sure to find something you like. Its fairly priced and the food is delicious. Be sure to come here one night for a family style meal!

Tijuana: Okay, I know what your thinking. Why would you want to get Mexican food if you’re in Italy? But hear me out, there is only so much pizza and pasta a girl can take.  For those nights when your not feeling Italian, Tijuana is sure to do the trick. Its the best Mexican restaurant in Florence and you can get burritos, tacos, empanadas, you name it! Come here from 7-8 for happy hour and get a refreshing Margarita for 5 euro and some chips and salsa.
