The Best Fest Since Coachella: Barcelona Sonar Music Festival

By Mike Kallay

Mark your calendars, grab your favorite tank top and a pair of cheap sunglasses. Festival season is upon us, and that means Sonar Music Festival in Barcelona is just weeks away. “But Mike,” you say, “What is Sonar and why should I elevate it to the top of my priority list?” Great question, and look no further. Consider this your OFFICIAL Sonar Road Map.

What is Sonar?

Sonar is a Music Festival in the City of Barcelona that brings together some of the biggest names in music from around the world. Last year, 121,000 people flocked to the City of Dreams to see Flux Pavilion, Pretty Lights, DJ Snake, Lykke Li, and Rudimental bring down the house. It audibly encompasses Barcelona’s rich culture and nightlife.

Why should I go?

Going to a music festival during your semester abroad should absolutely be on your priority list. Music festivals in Europe, particularly those that feature electronic music, have the unique ability of bringing together people from all over the world with different cultural backgrounds and uniting them with melodic beats and heavy drops. You’ll look through the crowd and see flags spreading all 6 continents (sorry Antarctica, no penguins allowed, maybe next year). There just isn’t anything quite like it, and if you miss it you’ll feel a little bit like this:

When is it?

Sonar Music Festival is June 18th-20th, you know what that means….
