5 Great Places to Grab a Beer in Florence

By Adam King

As the summer is now in full force, one of the best ways to beat the heat is enjoying a nice cold brewski.  Even though Italy is known for their wine, there are plenty of places to grab a beer.

1. Brewdog Firenze (via 21 50123, Via Faenza, 1, 50123 Firenze FI)

Brewdog is one of Florence’s best kept secrets.  This craft beer bar is not huge, but the beer selection is my personal favorite in all of Florence.  With IPA’s, stouts, and lagers; there is a bit for every beer lover.  With outdoor tables, a basement with fooseball, and a modern looking bar upstairs, Brewdog is a can’t miss joint.

2. Lion’s Fountain (Borgo degli Albizi, 34, 50122 Firenze)

Lion’s Fountain has a great outdoor patio in the heart of Florence that is perfect to sip on a Guinness or Harp.  They also serve food and is a very popular spot among Americans in Florence so stop here for a taste of home and some fellow ‘Muricans.

3. The Westin Excelsior (Piazza Ognissanti, 3, 50123 Firenze)

For those looking for a classier spot to enjoy a beer, look no further than the Westin Excelsior.  Just a short walk from the Ponte Vecchio, it offers 360 degree views from the rooftop of Florence and all of its beauty.

4. Monkey Bar (Via della Mattonaia, 20, Firenze)

For those of you looking to enjoy a beer with some locals, look no further than Monkey Bar.  A bit of a dive bar, Monkey Bar is always full of Italian locals enjoying beers after work or late at night.  Make sure you are up on your Italian before coming here though!

5. Top of Piazzale Michaelangelo (Piazzale Michelangelo, 50125 Firenze)

Alright while it is not a bar, it is still one of my favorite places to drink a beer.  Stop at Conad or a water store, pick up a Peroni or two and enjoy the beautiful sunset.
