Back in Rome, students headed to Tuscany on Saturday to explore the quaint towns and taste some of the local wines! We started off by tasting some red wine in Montepulciano followed by a walk up to the now-famous clock tower (featured in Twilight Sagas New Moon). We then bused over to Pienza where students were able to enjoy a lunch overlooking the beautiful Tuscan countryside. After taking a stroll down the famous three streets in Pienza; Via del Amore, Via del Fortuna, and Via del Baci, we took a personal tour of Palazzo Piccolomini where Pope Pius II had lived for a short period of time. The stunning palace only took 3 years to be built! Our last stop (and the group favorite) was to the Altesino Winery just north of Montalcino. After learning the history behind Brunello wine (only produced in Montalcino) we were able to tour the premises and taste the famous wine. It was once again another beautiful day spent touring the Tuscan Countryside.
Next weekend we will be returning to the Amalfi Coast and Cinque Terre, as well as heading up to the French Riviera! If you need to work on your tan, Bus2alps can take you to all the best sun-soaked destinations. See you on the bus!
