Weekend In Review – Weekend of July 7th

As the temperatures keep rising, we at Bus2alps keep exploring more ways to beat the heat! Many students spent the weekend cooling off on the beaches of the Amalfi Coast, while others spent Saturday tasting wine in Tuscany, and even more hit up the trails and beaches of Cinque Terre on Sunday!
The weekend kicked off with a trip to the Amalfi Coast. Friday, the group headed to Capri and Anacapri to explore the towns and top the day off at the Marina Grande beach.  Of course, Friday night wouldn’t have been complete without our usual trip to the restaurant Leone Rosso where students munched on local specialties and wine.  Many also finished off their evenings with a trip to the English Inn, a local bar that is known for its outdoor biergarten! Saturday was spent splashing in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean sea in Positano. We then capped off the weekend with a stop in Pompeii on Sunday to learn the history of the ancient city that was once completely demolished (and preserved) by Mount Vesuvius!

Back in Rome, students headed to Tuscany on Saturday to explore the quaint towns and taste some of the local wines! We started off by tasting some red wine in Montepulciano followed by a walk up to the now-famous clock tower (featured in Twilight Sagas New Moon).  We then bused over to Pienza where students were able to enjoy a lunch overlooking the beautiful Tuscan countryside. After taking a stroll down the famous three streets in Pienza; Via del Amore, Via del Fortuna, and Via del Baci, we took a personal tour of Palazzo Piccolomini where Pope Pius II had lived for a short period of time. The stunning palace only took 3 years to be built! Our last stop (and the group favorite) was to the Altesino Winery just north of Montalcino. After learning the history behind Brunello wine (only produced in Montalcino) we were able to tour the premises and taste the famous wine. It was once again another beautiful day spent touring the Tuscan Countryside.

Next weekend we will be returning to the Amalfi Coast and Cinque Terre, as well as heading up to the French Riviera! If you need to work on your tan, Bus2alps can take you to all the best sun-soaked destinations. See you on the bus!
