Route (Rome - Prague - Berlin - Amsterdam - Paris - The Northern Loop)
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
The trip departs Rome from the Roma Termini train station at 17:00*. The meeting point is in front of the Nike store at the front of the train station. Please meet your trip leader 20 minutes prior to departure. Travel to Prague is by private luxury coach with A/C, DVD, and bathroom. We make one 45 minute stop. Estimated travel time is 16 hours**. Approximate arrival time is 9:00*. Upon arrival to Prague, we will immediately check into our accommodation.
Day 2
Friday morning, after some time for breakfast and to freshen up, we hook up with the best walking tour in the city, Sandemans New Prague Walking Tour. Our 3 hour tour will cover all the main sites and stories of Prague’s fascinating history exploring the Old Town, New Town, and the Jewish Quarter.
For lunch your Bus2alps Trip Leader will point out the best place to try traditional Czech cuisine at a really cheap price, and bring those interested to the Czech Kitchen. The rest of the day is free to explore Prague at your own pace. Options are endless: shopping sprees, visiting museums, sipping on the local brew, and heaps more!
Friday night we take you out for a night on the town with the Clocktower Bar Crawl, the biggest bar crawl in Prague. We skip the tourist traps and hit 4 of Prague’s best local bars and clubs, and end up at an underground club that is open until dawn.
Day 3
Saturday morning your Bus2alps Trip Leader will take you to across the river to Mala Strana and get you up close and personal with Petrin Hill, Prague Castle, and the John Lennon Wall. Petrin Hill and Prague castle boast the best views of the city, and the metaphorical John Lennon Wall is a piece of art in itself, so don’t forget your camera.
For lunch your trip leader will recommend some tasty places where you can try some traditional Czech cuisine. Saturday afternoon we meet at Beer Factory around 17:00. This basement sports bar has beer taps on the tables so you can pour your own pint of Pilsner! We meet back in the hostel bar at 22:30 to head out to either Lucerna or Karlovy Lazne. Lucerna is an 80’s/90’s Video Dance Bar/Club with a great atmosphere and cheap drinks. Karlovy Lazne is Prague’s biggest club boasting 5 different floors with a different DJ on each floor. With 10 different bars to choose from, you won’t be left thirsty at Karlovy Lazne.
Day 4
We depart Prague at 9:00* for Berlin. Estimated travel time is 5 hours**. Approximate arrival time in Berlin is 14:00*. Upon arrival we will check into our accommodation. You will have the afternoon free to check out Museums Island, get a view of the city at the TV Tower, shop at the markets, or explore the city. Sunday night we will organize a Pub Crawl with New Europe at 20:00 for those interested in checking out the eclectic Berlin night scene. If you choose not to join the Pub Crawl, there will be an optional group dinner at Potsdamer Platz.
Day 5
Wake up to the city that first divided Europe and then re-united it, Berlin After breakfast we will depart at 10:30* to see Berlin with the Sandeman’s New Berlin Walking Tour, one of the top walking tours in Europe! The tour lasts for around 3 hours. The tour will take us to Brandenberg Gate, The Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, The Reichstag, Mitte Town, and Museums Island. After, you are free to explore, join a specialized walking or bike tour, or follow your trip leader to the Reichstag or Potsdamer Platz for shopping. There will be an optional, organized group dinner at 19:00. After dinner we will return to our accommodation, grab our luggage and depart for Amsterdam at 22:00*. Estimated drive time is 9 hours**. We will arrive in Amsterdam at 7:00* and check into our accommodation.
Day 6
Tuesday morning we depart at 10:00* on the Sandeman’s New Amsterdam Walking Tour. The walking tour lasts around 3 hours and covers much of the city including the Red Light District, Anne Franke House, and the canals. The walking tour concludes near the Anne Franke. Entry to the Anne Franke House is optional. For those that choose to not enter the Anne Franke House, your trip leader will show you to the Museumsplein where you can visit the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, or head for the Heineken experience. Located outside of the Heineken Museum is a pancake house built in an old carousel to cure your munchies. The night is free to explore the various bars, clubs, and shows of Amsterdam.
Day 7
Wednesday is a free day for you to explore Amsterdam. Amsterdam is rich with museums, boasting the largest volume in Europe. Bus2alps recommends making time to see the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House, and Heineken Experience, if you have not already done so. There are also varous bike and canal tours for a quicker way to see the city. The night is free to join a pub crawl or explore Amsterdam’s engaging and provocative nightlife.
Day 8
Thursday morning we depart Amsterdam at 9:00* for Paris. Esitmated drive time is 7 hours**. We arrive in Paris, Europe’s most romantic city, at approximately 16.00* and check into our accommodation. The afternoon is free to hang out or explore. If you are looking for a good sunset, head up to Sacre Coure or to the Eiffel Tower. We will organize a Pub Crawl with New Europe that meets at the hostel at 20:00*. If you choose to go to Sacre Coure, you can meet the Pub Crawl at the Blanche Metro stop at 20:45. If you choose to not join the Pub Crawl, you can check out one of Paris’ numerous nightlife districts, grab a bottle of wine and baguette, and watch the Eiffel Tower light up, or relax at the hostel.
Day 9
Friday morning we depart at 10:00* with the Sandeman’s New Paris Walking Tour. The tour last 3 hours and brings us to the Champs Elysee, Arc du Triumph, Notre Dame, Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, Bastille, plus much more. The tour last 3 hours. Afterwards, your trip leader will bring those interested to the Eiffel Tower or Arc du Triomphe. You will have time in the afternoon to check out the Louvre, Musee D’Orsay, hang out at the Eiffel Tower. The night is yours to check out Paris’ bustling nightlife, watch the Eiffel Tower light up, scope sunset at Sacre Coure or relax at the hostel.
Day 10
The last full day of ‘The Northern Loop’ gives you time to check the last of Paris off your list. Saturday is the perfect day to take a trip out to Versailles Palace. Located about a 40 minute trip from our accommodation, Versailles is the the most notable palace in the world. Meet your Bus2alps Trip Leader in the accommodation lobby at 10:30* for Versailles. You will have plenty of time on Saturday on return from Versailles to visit the Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, climb the Eiffel Tower, Arc du Triompe, or head for some last second retail therapy. We depart Paris for Florence at 20:00*. Estimated travel time to Florence is 14 hours**.
Day 11
Sunday morning we arrive in Rome at approximately 13:00*. In 10 days we will have spanned 4,500 kilometers, 7 countries, 4 major cities, and an unforgettable time. Now go get some rest!
